A Little Insight Into All Things Bailey

Behind the name...

At a park playdate today, I got to thinking about baby names. No no no, don't get all excited: the baby factory at Casa de Bailey is retired for good. But I was there with friends and we were sharing our children's names and why we chose them and it got me thinking that I've never shared the meaning of my kids' names on the blog. So I figured, why not? Lol.

Aiden is of Gaelic, Celtic and Irish origin and means the same in all three: fiery. I think all who have met him could agree that he certainly lives up to that assessment! Lol. Charles (Aiden's middle name) has several European origins, but the same general meaning: Manly. So Aiden Charles means "fiery and manly." I can definitely see that!

Ava is trickier. It has a Latin-American origin which takes on a literal meaning: like a bird (as in the Latin class for bird, Aves). But it also is listed as a variation on the medieval names Avis and Aveline, with Ava having no actual meaning. We call Ava "Avis" as a nickname sometimes, so reading that made me laugh! Elizabeth (Ava's middle name) means: godly or consecrated to God. So Ava Elizabeth literally means "like a bird consecrated to God." Interesting, no?

Just thought I would throw some knowledge your way:) Have a great weekend!
